Let us ask From God things That are to Benefit God
1 Kings 3:9(NIV)
So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
The Bible says, 'the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and said he must ask for whatever he wanted God to give him'. Solomon here was only a child, he says it himself and that he did not know how to carry his duties but God made him King in place of his father King David and the people he was to lead were numerous to count or number.
Given this Huge opportunity by God to ask for whatever he wanted, Solomon did not ask for Long life or wealth for himself nor for the death of his enemies but instead - He asked for discernment in administering justice. God said to him, He will do what he asked, God said 'He will give him a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like him, nor will there ever be'. But God, the Greatest, Who keeps on doing great things now Promises to give Solomon not only what he asked for but also what he did not ask for, which is Wealth and Honor so that in his life time he will have no equal among kings. And if Solomon walks in OBEDIENCE to GOD and KEEP GOD's DECREES and COMMANDS as his father David did, God will give him Long life.
Here I am learning that we always ask from God the obvious, we ask things of this world, we ask things that are desired by our flesh, we ask things to please ourselves, we ask things that we think our families need the most. We are suppose to ask God to give us a discerning heart to lead our families to distinguish between right and wrong in everything we do and everywhere we go. So God will give us even more, because He knows better than we do. We see here that Solomon was so selfless, He put His people that The Lord called him to lead before his own needs and God gave Him way more. Ever thought maybe things are not going so well because you are so selfish that you never even pray for anyone in your family, you claim you have friends and you love them yet they never make it to your prayers. Lets begin to ask from God for the things that are to benefit God not us, Ask Him 'God please show me your purpose for my life'. Help me God be a great servant to my Spiritual father, Help me God be the solution to what ever problem that he has.
Thank you.
